about

Astraea origins
Inspired by Astraea, the ancient symbol of justice, integrity, and moral clarity, and in myth, her ascension into the constellation Virgo, a lasting emblem in the night sky, Astraea Technologies was founded on a simple but urgent belief:
As humanity moves into harsher, more unforgiving environments, the systems that protect human life must be held to a higher standard.
Modern pharmaceuticals and medical technologies are rigorously tested for terrestrial use, but rarely validated against the compounded stressors of extreme environments, both on Earth and beyond.
Astraea exists to close that gap.
If you're operating in extreme or high-stakes environments, we'd love to hear from you.
Our system
Astraea is building an integrated system, HIRO-LAB and DRIFT, that defines a new paradigm in Validation-as-Infrastructure: generating high-fidelity exposure data and transforming it into structured, predictive intelligence to validate the performance of human-critical technologies in extreme environments.

Generate
Generate real-world performance data with HIRO-LAB, Astraea's modular validation engine designed to produce high-fidelity exposure and degradation insights under ionising radiation and extreme environmental conditions.
Transform
Transform data into structured insight with DRIFT, Astraea’s analytical intelligence layer that converts complex datasets generated by HIRO-LAB into predictive, decision-ready outcomes.
Enable
Enable better decisions before deployment by revealing how systems behave under real-world extremes, so risks are understood early, failures are anticipated, and performance is validated before it matters most.
our advantage
A compounding data moat, by design
Astraea is building a proprietary dataset on radiation-driven degradation and extreme-environment performance.
Every HIRO-LAB test will contribute to this growing dataset, with Astraea DRIFT transforming results into structured, predictive insight.
Over time, this compounding dataset will become increasingly difficult to replicate, positioning Astraea not just as a service provider, but as a long-term intelligence partner.

why now?
We are at a critical inflection point where human capability is accelerating faster than the systems designed to support it.
Five converging forces define this moment:
-
Space Acceleration & Operational Reality — Commercial space is rapidly expanding as lunar and Mars missions transition from concept to execution
-
Regulatory Momentum — Emerging frameworks for in-orbit and extreme-environment healthcare
-
Defence Investment — Increased focus on readiness in high-risk and hostile environments
-
Radiation Ubiquity & Underestimation — Radiation technologies are advancing and embedded in everyday life, yet their long-term impact on materials and human-support systems remains poorly understood
-
The Validation Gap — Existing frameworks have not kept pace with human expansion
Together, these forces create a clear need...
Technologies must be validated not for where they were designed, but for where they will operate.

To build validation-to-insight systems that transform how human-critical technologies are understood, tested, and trusted in extreme environments.
Mission
A future where human systems are not designed for environments alone, but engineered to withstand and adapt to them.

FOUNDING TEAM
Astraea began with a shared question among engineers, scientists, and communicators: How do we ensure human-critical technologies remain reliable in environments where failure is not an option?
What started as curiosity has become a focused effort to support humanity’s expansion into extreme environments, grounded in technical rigour, systems thinking, and real-world application.
Meet the team…

Brooke Mills
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Brooke brings strategic, scientific, and operational depth to Astraea, with experience spanning advanced research environments, project delivery, and emerging technology ecosystems.
She has worked on strategic initiatives within the University of Sydney’s Nanoscience Hub, supporting executive leadership while delivering complex projects across multidisciplinary teams. With formal training in project management and leadership, Brooke combines structured delivery with strong stakeholder engagement and strategy implementation.
Her work is complemented by active involvement in the Australian and global STEM ecosystem, including speaking and panel participation, mentoring in programs such as the NASA International Space Apps Challenge, and contributing to space-focused initiatives like the Milo Mission Academy, where she led project delivery.
Driven by a clear focus on space medicine and critical technologies, Brooke ensures Astraea’s work remains grounded in real-world application, coordinated execution, and meaningful impact across science, healthcare, and space.

Gordon Carroll
Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Gordi brings a rare combination of scientific depth, applied innovation, and human-performance training across extreme environments. He has published peer-reviewed research in scientific journals, with academic grounding in Psychology and Medical Science (including neuroscience).
He has completed accredited study in Challenges for Humans in Space through the University of Tasmania (MD-level coursework), and holds multiple patents across invention and applied systems design.
Alongside his technical and scientific background, Gordi has contributed to high-reliability human performance training, including preparing astronaut-facing simulation environments through Surf Life Saving-based operational scenarios, bridging physiological understanding with real-world survival and response systems.
At Astraea, he anchors the system architecture in validated science, human factors, and operational realism.

Graeme Kuchmar
Marketing and Communications Manager
Graeme focuses on translating Astraea’s technical capability into clear understanding, alignment, and adoption across industry, government, and research partners.
He holds a degree in Media and Communications and is currently studying mechatronics engineering, actively building technical depth to complement his role at the intersection of engineering and external engagement.
He has contributed to NASA-aligned mission concepts through the Milo Mission Academy, gaining exposure to systems engineering principles including requirements, subsystems, and mission architecture.
Graeme brings professional experience across marketing, digital communications, and stakeholder engagement, with a background in customer-facing and operational environments.
Importantly, he played a central role in shaping and bringing the Astraea brand to life, developing the narrative, positioning, and external identity that defines how the organisation is understood today.
At Astraea, he ensures complex technical work is clearly communicated, strategically positioned, and able to move into real-world partnerships and adoption pathways.
our journey
Founded by a passionate collective of scientists, engineers, and dreamers, we’re on a mission to protect human health beyond Earth. Our flagship project, HIRO-LAB tackling global challenge: how radiation affects essential medicines and healthcare technology in extreme environments.

Why Astraea?
Because failure is not an acceptable outcome.
Astraea Technologies is developing advanced validation solutions for both on- and off-world applications—where radiation, isolation, and extreme conditions make reliability non-negotiable. By treating these environments as the starting point, Astraea is building integrated, real-world testing capabilities designed to ensure human-critical technologies perform when and where lives depend on them.
our philosophy
Astraea is built on a human-first validation philosophy.
We believe that protecting human life demands more than adapting products designed for benign conditions. We develop approaches that assess technologies based on how they perform when it truly matters, enabling organisations to uncover hidden failure pathways before deployment, quantify real-world risk rather than theoretical tolerance, and engineer resilience into products from first principles.
our difference
Extreme environments at the centre.
Astraea is developing validation platforms with extreme environments at the centre. Focusing on radiation, isolation, and resource-constrained conditions to deliver decision-ready, real-world data. Designed for cross-domain application across space, healthcare, defence, and disaster response, these solutions aim to turn testing into actionable insight through advanced analysis and advisory. Built on scientific rigour, secure data, and scalability, Astraea is creating a platform to support customers from early validation through to mission-critical deployment.
why now?
Human presence in extreme environments is accelerating.
Space infrastructure is expanding, healthcare is facing greater radiation exposure and remote delivery challenges, and defence and disaster-response operations are becoming more complex and prolonged. Yet validation frameworks have not kept pace. Astraea is positioning itself at this inflection point, developing technologies that combine deep technical capability, human-centred engineering, and evidence-based validation to help ensure that when humans are pushed to the limits of survivability, the systems protecting them are built to endure.
