Gordi brings a rare combination of scientific depth, applied innovation, and human-performance training across extreme environments. He has published peer-reviewed research in scientific journals, with academic grounding in Psychology and Medical Science (including neuroscience).

He has completed accredited study in Challenges for Humans in Space through the University of Tasmania (MD-level coursework), and holds multiple patents across invention and applied systems design.

Alongside his technical and scientific background, Gordi has contributed to high-reliability human performance training, including preparing astronaut-facing simulation environments through Surf Life Saving-based operational scenarios, bridging physiological understanding with real-world survival and response systems.

At Astraea, he anchors the system architecture in validated science, human factors, and operational realism.

Q&A with gordi

Having an idea is easy, finding a team that believes fully in the potential and is committed to building a company around a common passion is hard. That’s when Astraea became real to me. Designing healthcare concepts for human use in extreme environments has always been more than a passion for me, it’s almost a duty to be able to help the next generation of explorers, as well as isolated communities. From examining the radiation degradation effects on pharmaceuticals, to mapping radiation off earth, Astraea stands to reliably, safely, and humanely foster progress for the future.
Growing up with space in my bones has absolutely prepared me for the extra terrestrial aspects of Astraea. Combining that knowledge with my background in human Psychology, neuroscience and medical sciences has allowed me to dive deep into Astraea key missions and leadership, setting up a reliable framework for the future!
Curiosity is a hallmark of humanity. Without it, we wouldn't have explored the far reaches of our planet, and ventured out into the unknowns of space. What excites me about building in and for extreme environments is that we are uniquely positioned to help these exploration teams in situ, with resources that are designed to work and last. Pushing these boundaries also leads to cutting edge research and engineering, an area in which Astraea cannot wait to explore and utlise for uses in extreme environments, but also here on earth, in everyday homes.
Being able to completely document the real-time degradation of pharmaceuticals is fascinating to me. This technical capability of the HIRO-LAB is what’s missing in a lot of large scale manufacturers nowadays, and we seek to offer not only a solution for them, but also the expand our understanding of what occurs during this critical process. Astraea’s Drift degradation profile matters so much right now as we are able to start creating a database of real-time reactions which will be built upon with future testing. A collective database that allows us to understand and model the real time effects of radiation on not only pharmaceuticals but other molecules is key in this industry.
Our core is helping people. That’s what gets me and the team motivated each day. In 10 years I hope that we are a recognised industry lead in radiation degradation profiling, as well as a trusted validation standard for healthcare technology in extreme environments. We’ve laid the foundation of these successes, now we just have to maintain the momentum! My personal 10 year goal for Astraea is to see real change in isolated communities that require reliable and affordable healthcare technology. My role is to take these technology ideas and make them into a reality, working across established industry and R&D to validate new healthcare tech.
