Astraea featured in Wholesale Investor: “Dying for a Cure”

24 April 2026

Astraea Technologies has been profiled by Wholesale Investor for its work addressing one of the most overlooked challenges in space and extreme-environment medicine: how radiation and harsh conditions impact the effectiveness of life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical systems.

The article highlights Astraea’s HIRO-LAB platform and Astraea Drift service, which enable continuous, real-time degradation profiling of materials and medicines under radiation exposure—capturing dynamic changes that traditional pre- and post-testing methods miss.

Founded by CEO Brooke Mills and CTO Gordon Carroll, Astraea is preparing for a series of space-based validation missions, including upcoming orbital tests and a planned lunar deployment in 2028, alongside Earth-based commercial applications in healthcare, defence, and disaster response.

With seed funding underway, Astraea is positioning its technology as a new standard for validating critical systems in extreme environments—on Earth and beyond.

Astraea slated for first test payload launch

16 December 2025

A major milestone for Astraea Technologies: we have signed an Expression of Interest (EOI) to launch our first HIRO-LAB materials testing payload to low Earth orbit (approximately 400 km altitude, the same region as the International Space Station) with NSW-based launch partner Sunburnt Space, targeted for late 2026.

This marks the transition from concept to flight operations for HIRO-LAB and a significant step forward in in-orbit degradation and validation testing capability.

With this mission now in motion, EOIs for space-based degradation testing through HIRO-LAB are officially open.
We are inviting interest from organisations working across:

  • Astronaut healthcare systems for long-duration missions

  • Protective coatings and surface treatments

  • Electronics, sensors, and space-qualified components

  • Advanced materials and composites

  • CubeSat systems and payload technologies

If your organisation is developing technologies that must survive and perform in extreme environments, we’d love to hear from you. Submit an EOI to discuss your testing requirements.

More information will be shared as we progress toward launch, but for now, we’re proud to mark a major early milestone in Astraea’s journey into orbit.

One year and accelerating…

11 December 2025

This week marks our 1-year business anniversary. Co-founders Brooke and Gordon share a brief update on our journey so far and what comes next for Astraea Technologies.

Despite being a small team, we’ve achieved significant early milestones that reinforce a simple belief: this is something worth doing.

Highlights from our first year include presenting our HIRO-LAB paper at IAC 2025, engaging with the global space ecosystem at the inaugural space hub at the Paris Air Show, and visiting leading institutions including ESA and ANSTO.

Across every step, we’ve remained focused on one goal: advancing healthcare resilience for humanity in extreme environments.
In 2026, we accelerate. We will begin earth-based validation testing, progress new technology concepts, and demonstrate real-world performance across our systems.

We are also now open for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from organisations seeking to understand and mitigate radiation-driven degradation across their products and systems.

We’re deeply grateful for the relationships built throughout 2025. They continue to shape our direction and strengthen our commitment to what comes next.

Astraea Technologies debuts HIRO-LAB concept at IAC 2025

2 September 2025

Astraea Technologies officially launched at the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025) in Sydney, unveiling its HIRO-LAB (Heavy Ionising Radiation Observation Laboratory) concept, supported by Investment NSW.

HIRO-LAB is a patented platform designed to analyse radiation-induced degradation, beginning with Earth-based simulated testing and progressing toward validation in space environments.
The concept focuses on improving the resilience of pharmaceuticals and critical systems exposed to extreme radiation, with applications across aerospace, defence, advanced materials, and remote medicine.

Astraea also presented its research on pharmaceutical degradation under heavy ionising radiation and participated in discussions on the commercial potential of space-enabled healthcare.
The launch marks Astraea’s entry into the global space ecosystem, establishing its mission to bridge Earth and space through radiation resilience testing.

IAC 2025 Paper

Positive Spin: Analysis of Pharmaceutical Degradation due to Heavy Ionising Radiation Exposure and its Impact on Pharmaceutical Stability and Viability in Future Space Exploration and Habitation.

Abstract: As human space exploration advances towards missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, the health and safety of astronauts remain paramount. A critical challenge is the impact of spacerelated heavy ionising radiation on pharmaceuticals intended to maintain crew health during long-duration missions. Astraea Technologies plays a pivotal role in bridging existing knowledge gaps by advancing space medicine research focused on the effects of cosmic radiation on drug stability. This paper discusses the unique radiation environment of space, highlights the challenges associated with pharmaceutical degradation under these conditions, and demonstrates how Astraea Technologies’ research and technology development align with international recommendations to ensure the efficacy and safety of pharmaceuticals in space.
